The Famous Whites of White Sewing Machine and White Motors:
May 14, 2012
Dan Ruminski, reknowned Cleveland historian, joins us at 7:30pm in the Auburn Church on Century Village Museum grounds for a fascinating program on the White Family of Chesterland. Walter White, president of White Motors, felt that trust was the key component in any business deal. Mr. Ruminski will speak as to how that ideal founded Cleveland and Geauga County. Join us for a lively and interactive program with light refreshments! This program is free for members, non-members are $5.00.

Dr. Gunn Civil War Textiles:

Join us in the Auburn Church on Century Village Museum grounds at 7:30pm for a presentation by Dr. Virginia Gunn from the University of Akron. An expert on Civil War clothing and textiles, Dr. Gunn will share her knowledge with us as she talks about the importance of women in the textile industry during the 1860s. This program is sponsored by the "Know your Antiques Club" and is free and open to the public.

James A. Garfield Presentation and Welcome:

To kick off our Reenactment weekend, Wayne Enders of the Portage County Historical Society will present himself as James A. Garfield at 7:30pm in the Auburn Church on Century Village Museum grounds. President Garfield will talk about his life leading up to the Civil War and how his decisions and opportunities during the war helped shape the rest of his career. This program will serve as a preview for the weekend and is free and open to the public.

Civil War Reenactment:
May 26-27, 2012*
Commemorate the four-year 150th anniversary of the Civil War! Reenactors will be in authentic period dress. This year is our 28th annual Reenactment and we will be featuring our Historic Artisans, artillery battles, education programs, and traditional music. Hours are 10am - 5pm. General Admission: Adults: $7.00, Kids 6-12: $4.00, Golden Buckeye: $6.00, Members & Children 5 and under are FREE. Ohio Chautauqua:
July 3-7, 2012
A week-long program series featuring our theme “When Ohio Was The Western Frontier.” The troupe features naturalist and folk legend Johnny Appleseed, frontier aristocrat Margaret Blennerhassett, Iroquois leader Chief John Logan, Lewis & Clark expedition member York, and hero of the Battle of Lake Erie Oliver Hazard Perry.
