Heritage Partners

Bartholomew BarnSince its reorganization in 1938, the Geauga County Historical Society has endeavored to preserve both small and large artifacts dealing with the history of the Connecticut Western Reserve of which Geauga County is part.  Seventeen historically significant structures have been moved to or reconstructed in Burton, OH, joining six others in their original locations to create Century Village Museum.  The purpose of the Heritage Partners Program is to stabilize the long-term operating and maintenance costs for these historic structures by obtaining annual community support at various levels for each of the structures.

Participation in the Heritage Partners Program is open to individuals, service organizations, and businesses who share a common interest in promoting the preservation of the architectural heritage of the Western Reserve.

Designated accounts will be established for each structure with the funds being used to pay annual expenses such as insurance and utilities, as well as costs for capital improvements, repairs, and Shanower Librarymaintenance associated with that structure.  Capital improvements projects typically include interior and exterior painting, heating system upgrades, security improvements, and so on.

Participating donors in the Heritage Partners Program will be recognized in the following ways:

  • Custom-made plaque mounted prominently on the structure with the donor's name cast onto the plaque
  • Donor named in "The Historian", the Historical Society's online newsletter
  • Framed thank-you letter
  • Donor named in press release
  • Formal recognition ceremony with unveiling of bronze plaque
  • Donor named in Historical Society's Annual Report
